Our lovebirds, Justine and John, met at work and quickly bonded over their shared passions, especially for travel. Honeymooning in their dream destination, Bora Bora, was a no-brainer and as you will see, these two took full advantage of their time there! Grab yourself a cup of coffee and dive into the stunning images and the story behind their trip. This is certainly a feature you do not want to miss, whether you simply enjoy travel inspiration or are in the throes of planning your own dream honeymoon yourself!
Tell us a little bit about yourselves – how did you two meet and how did you decide to take a Bora Bora honeymoon?
Our love story began in 2014 when we worked together at a county hospital in Stockton, CA. After a few months of getting to know more about each other outside of work, we became a couple in August of 2014. John and I share a passion not only for our chosen profession, but also for traveling, going on spontaneous trips and adventures, and trying out new experiences. In September of 2015, John asked me to marry him. It feels so amazing marrying the person you see yourself spending the rest of your life adventures with!
We had a small and intimate wedding ceremony in beautiful South Lake Tahoe in July 2016. Today, John and I both currently work as Registered Nurses in Sacramento, CA. We work three nights a week, spending our days off enjoying ourselves and what we love to do most—spending time with each other, our families, engaging in outdoor activities, trying out new food places, and going on vacations. During the past two years, we have visited state parks, gone on hiking trips, and even traveled to Mexico to see the beautiful beaches of Cancun and Cabo San Lucas. It was initially my idea that for our honeymoon, I would love to go to my dream destination—Bora Bora, French Polynesia. As soon as I showed John photos of the enchanting island, he immediately fell in love. We were both set to spend our honeymoon in paradise!
Like some married couples, John and I opted to have a small and intimate wedding, since we wanted to spend more money on what mattered to us more—a down payment for our future home and tickets to our dream honeymoon destination. Like what they say, John and I believe that life, indeed, is too short to not go after and live your dreams. We want to live a life by our own design. We want to spend the rest of our lives taking the trips we have always wanted – going to places we have never been before, experiencing old and new cultures as well as culinary creations, and having unforgettable, meaningful cultural experiences. At the end of the day, it’s the memories and stories we tell that give our lives so much more meaning.
What was your favorite moment from your honeymoon?
Seeing the different shades of blue as we sailed through the waters of Bora Bora left us in awe. The water was both perfectly warm and amazingly clear, calm and shallow – truly the best we have ever seen! We also enjoyed staying in our overwater bungalow overlooking Mt. Otemanu in such a spectacular resort—truly heavenly! Another highlight was swimming with the sharks and stingrays—absolutely a once in a lifetime experience!
What are the “can’t miss” experiences in Bora Bora?
We were fortunate enough to experience a variety of activities—all of them we highly recommend. The following are the tours we took during the trip of our lives:
Bora Dream Pictures and Lagoon Tours-Vincent Brossault – Your Bora Bora vacation will never be complete without professionally taken photos. Yes, selfies and photos taken with self-timers and tripods work great too (we used go pros, dome, an advanced point and shoot, and even a drone!) but it is an even brighter idea to bring home professionally taken high resolution photos. You can get hundreds of quality photos taken while circling the beautiful lagoon, not only by an exquisite photographer, but also a naturalist with a passion for his home and sharing its best kept wonders.
Pure Snorkeling by Reef Discovery – John and I love to snorkel! We had such an amazing time exploring the clear blue waters of the island. During the tour, we snorkeled at four different stops including the well-known coral garden where thousands of different fish species can be found. We also got to swim near the majestic Eagle and Manta Rays.
Moana Jet Ski – Another great way to spend a couple of hours is through a wave rider tour. We did a tandem tour where we circled the lagoon with a friendly guide, made a few stops for photos, admired the water’s different shades of blue (we lost count!) and watched a coconut show.
Moana Adventure Tours – One of the highlights of our trip was swimming with the black tip sharks and stingrays. Don’t worry—these are the friendly kind! It was truly an unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience swimming with these sea creatures.
Bora Bora Parasailing – If you love breathtaking sights and want to get a closer look at the beautiful colors of the lagoon, you have to book a parasailing tour. It was truly an exhilarating experience being 350 feet up in the air with a 360 degree panoramic view of Bora Bora and Mt. Otemanu.
Vitamin Sea Bora Bora – Lastly, since we were on our honeymoon, we could not pass up the perfect opportunity to go on a romantic sunset sailing cruise. We sailed through the tranquil waters of the lagoon while admiring the changing colors of the clear blue sky as the sun set below the horizon. We laid comfortably while romantic songs played in the background—did I mention the champagne and wine served onboard? What a perfect way to end an incredible day in paradise.
All of our above suggested tours had exceptional tour guides who showed passion for what they do and pride in their home. We will never forget each and every one of the guides who helped make our honeymoon so special.
What is one thing you didn’t do that you wish you had?
We wish we had more time to go on a Mt. Otemanu hike as well as a land adventure to see more of the historical sites of Bora Bora.
What touches did your travel agent add to your trip that made it a legendary honeymoon?
Our travel agent, Catherine made everything so seamless. We chose Bora Bora only knowing about the clear and warm turquoise waters, and submitted an inquiry telling our travel agent the types of activities we enjoy. She immediately got in touch with us, provided suggestions for activities that she felt we may like based on our inquiry, proposed budget, and together, with our interests in mind, she helped us tailor our dream honeymoon itinerary. Her responsiveness and attention to detail were exemplary, and she was there to answer all our questions and concerns at anytime. We trusted Catherine, not only because she has visited Bora Bora multiple times, is extremely knowledgeable about different travel destinations and has extensive experience crafting customized honeymoon itineraries, but mainly because she showed us that she genuinely cared about creating with us the honeymoon we have always dreamed of.
We went to Bora Bora, enjoyed each and every moment while on the island and every activity on our itinerary with no worries, doubts, and uncertainties. Having a professional, dedicated, and compassionate travel agent from a renowned travel agency made such a huge impact on ensuring that every moment of our trip was perfect. Catherine made sure that all of our tickets, between air, land, and sea transfers were all accounted for, that all the activities we had chosen were organized into pre-arranged daily itineraries with vouchers ready to be handed to the tour operators, and that we were given written, printed and detailed instructions for our daily itineraries. All we really had to do was to show up at our hotel deck—ready for each adventure to commence!
What one word comes to mind when you think about your Bora Bora honeymoon?
What tips do you have for anyone currently planning their honeymoon?
Planning a honeymoon goes hand in hand with planning a wedding. Know your budget, know what matters to you and your future husband/wife, and know what will make the difference. Those were the questions John and I asked ourselves while planning for our wedding. We felt that saving for our future home’s down payment, going to our dream honeymoon destination, and going on more adventures in the future mattered more. Rather than spending so much money on our wedding, we focused more on a honeymoon not to forget—something epic and legendary, with countless memories that we will surely treasure for a lifetime. Chances are your honeymoon destination is a place where you have always wanted to go—make sure you make it worthwhile! Like what they say “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
We highly recommend finding a reliable travel agency (hopefully one as accommodating as Tahiti Legends) and speak with a professional agent to get all your questions, inquiries, concerns and doubts answered. They are here to help! They are there to help tailor your honeymoon trip to your specialized needs—from your budget to your airline tickets, to your hotel accommodation, meals, and activities, air, land, and sea transfers… they can take care of it all for you! All you have to do is take that step into making that dream honeymoon/trip a reality by getting someone to help make it more about you.
Still can’t get enough of this couple and their amazing honeymoon? (Neither can we!) Which is why we’ve included the video of their trip. Make sure that coffee’s still warm and enjoy!
