There’s something so special about escaping the everyday madness that seems to consume everyone – especially with your best friend by your side. Throw in sightseeing, activities, laughter, and plenty of downtime with cocktails in hand and you have the perfect recipe for a fabulous friendmoon.
Our feature today is just such a trip and we couldn’t be more excited to share their experience with you all! One of our industry partners, Laura Crafton with The Smart Flyer, and her friend Claire, a truly remarkable photographer, recently indulged in a friendmoon down to Tahiti. Visiting Taha’a, Rangiroa, and Bora Bora, Laura and Claire really took advantage of what each island has to offer while capturing stunning images of it all!
Read on below for their advice to people planning a vacation to French Polynesia. Whether you are going with friends, family, or your sweetheart, you won’t want to miss their tips and insights!
What are the can’t miss activities/sights/experiences?
On Taha’a the pearl farm and vanilla plantation are a must. It was so fascinating! We were shocked at the detailed processes behind these two industries. For Bora Bora the jet ski around the island tour is a blast. There are also great snorkeling spots right at many of the resorts. On Rangiroa, we did the tour to the Blue Lagoon to swim with the sharks. There were literally hundreds of sharks swimming around us at any given moment. We felt like we were being filmed by the Discovery Channel for Shark Week!
What’s one thing you weren’t able to fit in that you wish you had done?
We heard great things about Moorea but unfortunately we did not have enough time to fit it in for this trip. I guess we have to go back now! 🙂
What makes these islands a legendary destination for a friendmoon? What did you see that makes this a legendary honeymoon destination?
Well, I have to say – I think one day when we get married our husbands are going to have a hard time finding honeymoon spots that we haven’t already been to! That being said, I think that many people see French Polynesia solely as a honeymoon spot but it is so much more than that. It is perfect for friends and families as well. For us it was nice to be able to combine relaxation with a little bit of adventure and really immerse ourselves in the Polynesian culture. We really had a chance to declutter our brains and just talk, laugh, and appreciate our friendship all while living in a postcard and experiencing a part of the world that is so different from home. No matter what the occasion is I think there is something for everyone, although I still stand by saying that it is the ULTIMATE honeymoon destination!
What one word comes to mind when you picture your trip?
Sensational! The islands completely consume you…From the smell of the national flower, the Tiare, to the taste of the fresh fruits and Polynesian flavors…to the sounds of the upbeat traditional music that the locals dance to… to the warm crystal clear water and vibrant blue sky against the majestic Mt. Otemanu in Bora Bora…I could go on for days! It was truly an inspiring place to visit.
Best piece of advice to people planning a dream trip to Tahiti.
Use a travel agent of course! I may be biased but I have seen time and time again the value of our partnerships when planning a trip of this caliber. I work closely with Camille for my clients’ trips to the islands and her knowledge is invaluable. There are so many small details that people do not consider and it is our job to bring those to light for the client and make sure they get the most out of their vacation.
What destination is still on your bucket list?
We would love to do the Maldives! It would be interesting to see how it compares to our experience in French Polynesia.
We don’t know about you but we’ve got a heavy dose of wanderlust after hearing about their trip and seeing their pictures. And we couldn’t agree more with what Laura said, there truly is something for everyone in Tahiti. It is a destination unlike any other that everyone should experience at least once in their life.
Thank you so much to Laura & Claire for sharing their story and taking over our Instagram for the week! If you’re not already, be sure to follow us to see even more pictures from their trip! And we can’t wait for these two to head to the Maldives – imagine the pictures they will come back with!
Tell us, if you’ve been to Tahiti, what are your favorite activities? And if you’re going, which activities are you most excited for?
